(linguistics) a part of a sentence that contains a verb and is joined to the rest of the sentence by a word such as ‘who’, ‘which’ or ‘that’ and gives additional information about someone or something. For example, in the sentence ‘The girl who is wearing the blue dress is my sister’, the relative clause is ‘who is wearing the blue dress’.
